DIY versus Professional: What is the difference really?
You may be surprised to hear this, but RevBuilders Marketing doesn’t have a problem with do-it-yourself website design. Really, we don’t! Everyone has to start somewhere, and a brand new, built-in-the-garage, right-from-your-home business probably doesn’t have the cash to hire a professional designer. We get that.
We do, however, feel that a professional web design company offers a quality that can’t be achieved unless you’re, well, a web designer. There are lots of good website templates out there that offer a starting point, but when you’re ready to set your website apart and take it to the next level of awesome, you’ll need a professional designer.
Still not convinced? Here’s our top four reasons you should hire a professional to design your website:
- A professional web designer has the experience and knowledge to make your website the best it can be. While you may be the best in your industry, a professional website designer is the best in theirs. With their experience in website design, and their knowledge, a pro web designer knows what works and what doesn’t, and likely in your very industry. You might only look at your competitors’ websites for starting points for your own website, but a good designer will take the steps to make your website the lead in your industry, not just the same as your competitors. It takes experience and knowledge to make this happen, though.
- A professional web designer can make a website that is first functional, then aesthetic, and for your visitors. The purpose of a website is for your customers, and a professional website designer knows this. This means they’ll have tested ideas on ways to layout your website so that it works for your customers, not against them. A quality functional website will be far more profitable for you than simply a pretty website that makes your visitors wonder why they came at all.
- A professional web designer is faster than you. While a good website can still take a significant chunk of time to create, it could take someone trying to run a business and build a quality website in their “spare time” double that amount of time. And maybe more, if said person isn’t a professional graphic designer (see #4).
- You have better things to do with your time. Don’t be afraid to admit that website design isn’t in your cards right now. You have a business to run – your skills and talents are needed elsewhere. To be the most effective businessman or businesswoman, you need to focus on your strengths in your business, and don’t be afraid to find people to take over for your weaknesses.
