When driving traffic to your website, it can either be done organically (people link up with your business via sites such as Twitter, FaceBook, your blog, or perhaps a press release), or it can be done by the consumer clicking on a compelling ad which is paid for by you, the advertiser.

Difference Between Organic and Paid Search
Organic traffic is generally free; paid search marketing, obviously, comes with a price tag. Paid search marketing is also known as pay-per-click or PPC.Other than cost, the main difference between the two methods is the time frame. Organic search engine efforts could take several months to realize results; but with PPC search engine marketing it’s possible to see results within a week or so.

As with all facets of Online marketing, it’s not a matter of either/or. It’s a matter of how to integrate all facets and make it work together..

How PPC Works
Basically how PPC works is the advertiser creates a creative, catchy and compelling ad to capture the consumer’s attention. The advertiser has bid on strategic key words in order to achieve the best placement. That advertiser then pays each time a consumer clicks on the ad.

While there are many avenues through which you can feature your PPC ads, the big three are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter, with AdWords being the heavy hitter.

PPC Advantages
Due to the mammoth size of these search engines, such ads receive incredible visibility, which is why results come in quickly. Remember way back when you used to place an ad in the newspaper? Once it was in print, it was there to stay. Not so with PPC. PPC ads are flexible and can be tweaked from hour to hour if need be in order to achieve the best results. Another great advantage of PPC is that your ads can be narrowly targeted to a geographical location.

PPC Disadvantages
The downside of PPC Marketing is that many rank beginners spend way over budget with little or no results due to lack of understanding how the system works.
